MOTHER'S ANGUISH OVER SEX OFFENDER HOUSED IN GREENOCK
AN ANGRY mum has blasted council chiefs for housing a sex offender, who abused her young daughter, in the town where they live. She expressed her concern after seeing him in the street twice since his release from jail in October.
Patrick Kane (80), who was sentenced to three years imprisonment for a string of sexual offences spanning more than 40 years, has been staying at the Inverclyde Centre in Greenock.
The child's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: 'I told my daughter she would never have to see that bad man again but if she bumps into him how is she ever going to trust me again?' She described her emotional distress and fears that her daughter, who was just four when the attack occurred two years ago, might see him again, which could trigger her nightmares and memories of the abuse.
Douglas Robin, head of housing and building services, stated that he is an elderly man and the council has a legal responsibility to meet his needs, with rules and regulations about offenders that are released into the community.
He added that police are aware of the situation and the council is handling it sensitively, noting that there are no families in the Inverclyde Centre and that there are no children within the center.
Patrick Kane, who is under a supervision order until October, was not available for comment.
