COVENTRY BUS DRIVER PARMINDER MANDIER AND COLLEAGUES SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Coventry, three bus drivers who worked on school routes in Warwickshire have been convicted and sentenced for engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in 2010, involved a troubling breach of trust and exploitation of a minor by individuals who were supposed to be responsible for her safety and well-being.
Parminder Mandier, aged 38 and residing on Gulson Road in Coventry, was among those convicted.
Alongside him, Anthony Cowan, 28, of Napton Road, Stockton, and Ross Corby, 64, of Manor Farm Estate, Wolston, faced serious charges.
Mandier and Cowan initially denied the allegations, while Corby pleaded guilty when the case was brought before Birmingham Crown Court.
The trial lasted for seven days, during which evidence was presented that detailed the nature of their misconduct.
The court heard that the three men, all employed by the same bus company, developed a friendly relationship with the young girl.
This relationship was cultivated through numerous text messages exchanged between them, which eventually led to arrangements for meetings.
These meetings resulted in sexual encounters, a fact that was corroborated by chat logs and excerpts from a diary kept by the girl, which were read aloud during the proceedings.
On the day of sentencing, the jury found the charges against Mandier and Cowan to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt through a unanimous verdict.
All three men appeared in court to face their sentences.
Judge Nigel Godsmark delivered a stern warning to the defendants, emphasizing the gravity of their actions.
He stated, “All three of you were in a position of trust and took advantage of the immaturity of a 14-year-old girl for your own sexual gratification.
There is no suggestion of any conspiracy between you, which I find difficult to accept.” Mandier was sentenced to five years in prison.
The judge remarked that what began as a misguided attempt at fun had escalated into a full-blown sexual relationship, describing the episode as sordid and indicating that Mandier had lost touch with reality.
The court ordered that Mandier serve half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Cowan received a similar five-year sentence, reflecting the seriousness of his involvement.
Ross Corby, who played a more disturbing role in the case, was sentenced to two years in prison.
The judge described Corby’s behavior as “appalling” and noted a “disturbing element of corruption” in his actions.
As part of their sentences, all three men were placed on the Sex Offenders Register and were subject to Preventative Orders.
These orders prohibit them from working with children or having unsupervised contact with females under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any further harm and protect vulnerable minors in the community of Coventry and beyond.
