Southampton Rapist
A man identified as Ozbeg Teymuroglu has been sentenced to serve more than six years in prison following his conviction for a serious sexual assault that took place in a Southampton park. The sentencing occurred on Friday, 6 December, after a lengthy trial at Southampton Crown Court, where the 23-year-old defendant was found guilty of rape by a unanimous jury verdict.

Details of the case reveal that the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, 5 June, during a night out at The Edge nightclub in Southampton. The victim, a woman in her 40s, arrived at the venue shortly after 10:30 pm with her friends. During the course of the evening, she became separated from her group. CCTV footage from the nightclub captured her dancing alone, seemingly enjoying her night out. It was during this time that Teymuroglu, who had arrived at the club just after 1:00 am, approached her.

According to court proceedings, the two danced together briefly before Teymuroglu suggested they leave the nightclub together. The woman declined, expressing her desire to stay with her friends. Despite her refusal, Teymuroglu persisted and, at around 4:25 am, CCTV footage shows him taking her hand and persuading her to step outside under the pretense that he had seen her friends leave and wanted to help her reunite with them.

Once outside, Teymuroglu guided her into East Park, claiming that he had seen her friends nearby. The woman, concerned about walking through the park alone at night, questioned his intentions and attempted to walk back toward the nightclub. However, Teymuroglu pulled her into a secluded area of the park where he committed the assault.

Following the attack, the victim cleverly fabricated an excuse, claiming that someone had tried to call her on her mobile phone and that she needed to make a call. This ruse gave her the opportunity to escape from Teymuroglu and return to the nightclub, where she found her friend and reported the assault to the police.

Law enforcement officials identified Teymuroglu through CCTV footage and the identification documents he used to gain entry into the nightclub. He was subsequently located two days later in Milton Keynes, where he was arrested and charged with rape. During the trial, evidence was presented showing his involvement, leading to his conviction.

At the sentencing hearing, Teymuroglu was ordered to serve a prison term of six years and three months. Additionally, he was mandated to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crime and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
