In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sherwood and the wider Nottingham area, Owen Rippon, born around 2004 and residing on Woodville Road in Sherwood, has been found guilty of heinous acts of animal cruelty involving a beloved family pet. The incident, which took place between March 20 and April 4, 2023, came to light after videos depicting the abuse were uploaded to the social media platform TikTok, sparking widespread outrage and concern across multiple platforms.Rippon’s actions centered around a nine-year-old Staffordshire crossbreed named Sasha, a dog well known to the local community in Radford, Nottingham. The videos showed a horrifying sequence of events where Rippon subjected Sasha to a brutal beating and attempted to poison her with chocolate, all in the name of garnering social media likes and attention. The first video captured Rippon announcing to his followers that Sasha was subjected to this treatment daily before he proceeded to punch her at least 35 times while she cowered helplessly on a sofa. The dog appeared visibly terrified, and the repeated blows demonstrated a blatant disregard for her well-being.
In a subsequent video, Rippon was seen feeding Sasha a piece of highly toxic chocolate cake, openly boasting about his desire to no longer care for her. The footage was filmed by an unidentified accomplice who showed no concern for the suffering inflicted upon the dog, raising questions about their involvement and awareness of the cruelty being committed.
These acts of animal cruelty were committed in Nottingham, with the videos circulating widely across social media platforms in early April 2023. The distressing content prompted immediate public outrage, leading to Rippon going into hiding temporarily for his own safety. However, law enforcement quickly identified him, and he was subsequently arrested and charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. Rippon admitted guilt in court, and on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, he was sentenced for his crimes.
