MEN JAILED AFTER CONSPIRING TO ABUSE CHILD IN HUDDERSFIELD AIR BNB
Two men involved in a conspiracy to groom and sexually abuse a child in Kirklees have received prison sentences, with authorities describing their actions as profoundly depraved.Jeremy Mason, aged 39 from Manchester, and Owen Daley, aged 22 from Oxford, were labelled as a danger to children upon their sentencing at Leeds Crown Court on August 19.
Child protection officers in Kirklees expressed relief at the sentencing of Mason and Daley, who both pleaded guilty to multiple offences.
These included Mason's attempt to meet and sexually assault the male victim, as well as sharing indecent footage with Daley.
Mason was sentenced to six years after admitting to 14 crimes, such as encouraging or inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual acts, and communicating sexually with a child.
Daley also received six years in prison after pleading guilty to 12 charges, including causing a child under 13 to partake in sexual activity and engaging in sexual communications.
In addition to their prison terms, both offenders were issued lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and are required to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Their crimes came to light late December when police were contacted by a friend of the victim, on the night he was scheduled to meet Mason at an Airbnb in Huddersfield.
However, the victim did not arrive at the meeting point and was later found in the town center by his friend, who reported the incident.
The Kirklees Police Online Investigation Team initiated inquiries, tracing communications from the pair to the victim through online and phone data.
Mason was identified and arrested within 24 hours of the investigation, while Daley was located within a month through telecom records.
Investigators uncovered that an unidentified man had initially contacted the victim and shared his details with Mason and Daley.
Months of communications revealed that the pair exchanged sexual images with the victim and had made arrangements for Mason to meet and abuse him.
