CONTROLLING AND VIOLENT BOYFRIEND GETS JAIL FOR ASSAULT AND COERCIVE CONTROL
A controlling and abusive boyfriend named Owen Bush, aged 25, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after a series of violent and coercive acts against his girlfriend.Bush physically assaulted her, including throwing her across a bed and holding a knife to her neck when she attempted to leave in January this year.
He also punched her and hit her with a slipper when he saw her talking to his brother outside his home.
The court heard that his victim only had a brief escape when Bush's mother intervened and took her to hospital, where doctors diagnosed a small bleed on her brain and cuts and bruises.
The woman suffered from PTSD and believed she would have been killed if she had stayed.
The court described Bush as a violent and controlling bully who caused her enormous pain over a sustained period.
Bush had previously been convicted for wounding and battery.
The court verdict followed evidence that Bush had kept his girlfriend locked in a bedroom daily, allowing her out only for a ten-minute shower each morning, during which she was also forbidden from speaking to her family and only allowed to communicate with Bush’s mother.
The attack in January was particularly brutal, taking place over several hours in a confined space, and resulted in extensive hospital injuries.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Detective Constable Julie Armstrong described Bush as causing immense distress through his actions, which had long-lasting psychological effects.
The victim only managed to escape when Bush’s mother came and took her to hospital, highlighting the pattern of violence and control he exerted.
Bush has prior convictions for wounding and battery and is now serving time for his latest offending.
