NORTH WALES POLICE OFFICER DISMISSED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND MISCONDUCT

A police officer named Owain Lewis has been dismissed from North Wales Police following a misconduct hearing. The hearing revealed that Mr Lewis engaged in inappropriate and aggressive behavior towards his former girlfriend, with the panel describing his actions as gross misconduct. During the incident, Mr Lewis smashed his ex-girlfriend's phone in an argument, reacted recklessly by breaking her phone after she jabbed it at his chest during a subsequent encounter, and threw a tray of cold food towards her. It was also disclosed that Mr Lewis threw a baking tray containing cold food in her direction, which was deemed unacceptable. Furthermore, after moving out of their shared home, Mr Lewis returned and got into a heated argument, resulting in him pursuing her and engaging in unacceptable violence against her property. His previous eight-year relationship with the woman was described as unhappy, and she was said to have been attracted to a colleague, leading to tensions. The misconduct hearing noted that although his actions were inappropriate, this was not a typical domestic violence case; however, due to the nature of the incidents, the panel found it incompatible for Mr Lewis to continue in his police role. Consequently, he was dismissed without notice and will be barred from serving as a police officer again. North Wales Police condemned his behavior, emphasizing its seriousness and the damage to public trust, with Deputy Chief Constable Nigel Harrison stating, "Former PC Lewis’ actions were inappropriate, unprofessional, and totally unacceptable. This type of conduct seriously undermines trust and confidence in policing."
