Colne Domestic Abuser
A man named Oscar Hope, aged 27, has been involved in a violent incident against the mother of his child in Colne. According to court reports, Hope ripped a curtain rail off the wall before engaging in a physical altercation with his partner, during which he strangled her and called her a derogatory term. The incident occurred early in the morning, around 6:40 am, after he had been drinking throughout the night. Court hearings revealed that Hope entered the bedroom after drinking and initiated a dispute, asking his partner if she had cheated on him. He was seen to have taken a knife and started to cut his wrists, drawing blood, and after tending to the children present, he confronted his partner again. Hope accused her of infidelity and grabbed the curtains, ripping the rail from the wall. He then physically assaulted her by gripping her neck and slapping her in the face, pinning her to the wall. She managed to escape, locked herself in the bathroom, and called the police. Hope was later arrested and provided no comment during police interviews. He pleaded guilty to charges of intentional strangulation and criminal damage and was sentenced to 16 months in jail. His lawyer described the incident as out of character and linked his behavior to alcohol consumption.
