OLUWADAMILARE BAIYEWU'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN LONDON LEAD TO 24-YEAR SENTENCE
In a chilling series of violent sexual assaults that took place in the southeast London area of Thamesmead, Oluwadamilare Baiyewu, a 22-year-old man, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term of 24 years.The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of his crimes, which left two young women traumatized and terrified.
Despite his outward appearance as a volunteer at his local church, Baiyewu’s true nature was far from benign.
His involvement in community service was a facade that he used to conceal his sexual depravity, according to court reports.
His victims were young women, targeted in a series of brutal attacks that involved the use of a knife to threaten and intimidate them.
The first assault occurred on December 2, 2014, near Binsey Walk.
A 17-year-old girl was walking in the area when Baiyewu approached her from behind.
He brandished a knife and attempted to pull her towards an underpass.
Fortunately, the victim managed to break free from his grasp and fled the scene, escaping further harm.
Less than a week later, on December 9, 2014, another 17-year-old girl was attacked in the same vicinity.
As she was disembarking from a bus, Baiyewu grabbed her and pressed a knife against her throat, threatening to kill her.
He then forced her into a secluded area where he committed a rape.
The police investigation linked the two assaults through DNA evidence, which ultimately led to Baiyewu’s arrest.
He was taken into custody after forensic analysis confirmed his involvement in both attacks.
During the trial, it was revealed that Baiyewu had no fixed address, making his apprehension more challenging.
His actions shocked the local community and prompted calls for increased safety measures in the area.
At Woolwich Crown Court, Baiyewu was found guilty of multiple serious charges, including two counts of rape, kidnapping with the intent to commit a sexual offence, and possession of offensive weapons.
The court sentenced him to serve a minimum of 16 years in prison, with an additional eight years on license after his release.
