OLIVER WOLSTENHOLME AND HIS HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MANCHESTER

A notorious serial sex offender who subjected young women and underage girls to a relentless campaign of sexual violence spanning nearly ten years has been sentenced to nearly three decades in prison.

The perpetrator, Oliver Wolstenholme, 38 years old, was condemned by the judge as being a persistent danger to females of all ages.

His criminal activities included manipulative tactics to lure victims, disturbing acts of violence, and possession of child abuse material.

Wolstenholme engaged in calculated psychological manipulation to convince victims to have sex with him.

He even attempted to blackmail one woman into sex on his own wedding day, exploiting her vulnerability.

The man, who fantasized about being a police officer—evidenced by his obsession with dressing in police uniforms and keeping weapons such as a baton, an airsoft rifle, and a Samurai sword at his residence—used online platforms to target many young women before arranging face-to-face meetings.

Currently incarcerated at Wakefield maximum security prison in West Yorkshire, Wolstenholme has been identified as one of Britain’s most dangerous offenders.

Probation officers who evaluated him have labeled him as a significant threat.

His abusive conduct included raping three teenage girls in quick succession after luring them to a park with alcohol.

The trauma from his assaults has led at least one victim to attempt suicide through overdose, haunted by the memories of her experience.

Another girl was strangled into unconsciousness and then had her stomach bitten by Wolstenholme’s dog.

Authorities conducted a raid on Wolstenholme’s home in Wythenshawe, Manchester, uncovering a shocking stash of over 1,500 indecent images depicting children as young as a few weeks or months old.

His car contained a range of weapons including a kitchen knife, gloves, duct tape, a face mask, bolt croppers, and a bottle of vodka-infused drink he called a 'glitterbomb.' Further searches revealed nitrous oxide canisters and female underwear, emphasizing the extent of his depravity.

Historical reports indicate that a victim had previously contacted police in 2014, but charges against Wolstenholme were dropped due to her trauma and inability to testify.

During the proceedings at Bolton Crown Court, Wolstenholme—who is separated from his wife—pleaded guilty to multiple charges including rape, assault, and voyeurism involving three women.

He received a sentence of 29 years and nine months in prison, with a minimum of 20 years to be served before eligibility for parole.

He will remain on licence until the year 2060.

The latest sentences follow his earlier conviction in November 2021, when he was sentenced to 22 years for a series of sexual offenses committed between 2012 and 2019.

The new sentence is to run concurrently, effectively extending his incarceration for the foreseeable future but stopping short of a life sentence.

Judge Thomas Gilbart, presiding during the sentencing, described the case as deeply troubling.

He emphasized the systematic nature of Wolstenholme’s crimes, noting that he had raped six victims and met a seventh after grooming her.

The judge detailed that Wolstenholme used coercion, blackmail, and threats involving weapons, turning what could have been isolated incidents into a pattern of routine rape and assault.

The ongoing threat he poses was clearly acknowledged.

The first known victim, a 16-year-old college student, was attacked in 2012 after connecting with Wolstenholme through a gaming app.

He assaulted her at his then-residence in Partington, Greater Manchester, and later sent her menacing messages warning her to be cautious on her journey home.

Another victim, who met Wolstenholme on a dating app and communicated with him online for a year before their face-to-face encounter, suffered physically and psychologically.

Wolstenholme shot her in the knee with an airsoft rifle and strangled her until she lost consciousness, even allowing his dog to bite her stomach.

His crimes escalated to raping her during a hotel stay and secretly filming her naked on a bed, then attempting to blackmail her by threatening to share the footage with her employer and on social media.

A third woman, engaged to be married at the time, was coerced into a sexual assault after an illicit kiss at a drunken house party.

Her distress was evident; she expressed remorse and felt that she had been pressured into the encounter.

Wolstenholme exploited her vulnerability by blackmailing her with footage he secretly filmed.

He continued to intimidate her into further sexual acts, including attempts to pressure her into sex on his wedding night.

Further victims included three young girls aged between 14 and 15, whom Wolstenholme met at a Tesco in Baguley.

Hefriend offered them cigarettes, falsely claimed to be a drug dealer, and lied about his age.

He then drove them to a secluded car park, where he drugged and intoxicated them before assaulting each one in turn.

One girl tried to defend herself but was overpowered and raped in his car’s back seat.

Another was so intoxicated she was unable to resist or speak during the assault, which took place in the front passenger seat.

The third girl was raped over the boot of his vehicle, and Wolstenholme labeled her disparagingly afterward.

He was arrested in December 2019 but continued his grooming activities online by posing as a 17-year-old on Snapchat, targeting a 15-year-old girl with whom he exchanged numerous messages calling himself 'her man' and repeatedly using endearing terms like 'babygal.' The girl managed to escape during a meeting in a park by convincing a friend to call her pretending to be her mother.

Victims have spoken out about the lasting psychological impact of Wolstenholme’s actions.

One said she now struggles to form relationships and trusts no men, while another reported resorting to self-harm and suffering from PTSD and night terrors.

A third victim described her ongoing battle with alcohol addiction and panic attacks.

Some victims remain deeply scared, with one girl often shutting down and reluctant to leave her family home.

Wolstenholme brings a long criminal history, including a 2003 conviction for kidnap and possessing an offensive weapon after threatening a woman at knifepoint in the street before fleeing when she cried for help.

His record underscores a continuous pattern of violent and predatory behavior.

The defense, represented by Neil Usher, acknowledged the severity of Wolstenholme’s offenses, emphasizing that each case demonstrated profound harm to victims.

The court was told that, given his history and the assessed risk he poses, Wolstenholme remains a dangerous individual likely to reoffend for many years to come.
