OLIVER TAYLOR, NUNEATON'S DANGEROUS SEX OFFENDER, SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ATTACKS

In April 2013, Oliver Taylor, a man with a troubling criminal history, faced the full weight of justice after a series of heinous crimes committed in Nuneaton.

The case drew significant attention due to the severity of his actions and the subsequent legal proceedings that confirmed his dangerousness to the public.

Taylor was convicted of a brutal sexual assault that targeted a 17-year-old girl, along with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by beating, and two counts of robbery.

The incident occurred after he followed the victims as they left the King William pub situated on Coton Road during the early hours of an autumn morning.

When the teenage girl and her friends noticed they were being followed, they attempted to escape, but her progress was impeded when her shoelace came undone, forcing her to stop.

According to court reports, Taylor then subjected the girl to a terrifying ordeal, raping and sexually assaulting her in a secluded side street.

During the attack, he threatened to kill her if she revealed what had transpired.

The assault left the girl devastated, with court officials noting that she might never fully recover from the trauma.

Meanwhile, her two friends, aged 18, tried to locate her, only to be attacked by Taylor, who also stole £5 and a mobile phone from them.

The police responded swiftly, arresting Taylor nearby shortly after the incident.

The legal proceedings revealed that Taylor’s behavior during his trial was marked by arrogance and contempt for the victims, which the judge described as 'alarming.' His prior convictions for burglary and theft added to concerns about his dangerousness.

Despite his lawyers' arguments claiming insufficient evidence to label him as a threat, the court upheld the severity of his sentence.

In June 2012, Taylor was sentenced to 13 years in prison, with a minimum of six-and-a-half years before he could be considered for parole.

The court also imposed an exclusion zone around most parts of Nuneaton, preventing him from entering the town to protect the community.

In a subsequent appeal, Taylor challenged his sentence, arguing that there was not enough evidence to justify his classification as a danger to the public.

However, the appeal was dismissed by three of the country’s most senior judges, including Mr Justice Edwards-Stuart, Lord Justice Aikens, and Mr Justice Irwin.

They affirmed that the original sentence was 'amply justified' and that the finding of dangerousness was entirely appropriate.

The judges emphasized that the sentence was what Taylor deserved, and he remains incarcerated until the Parole Board determines he no longer poses a threat.

Furthermore, an exclusion zone has been established around Nuneaton, which prohibits Taylor from entering most parts of the town, a measure designed to safeguard residents from potential harm.

His release is contingent upon the Parole Board’s assessment of his rehabilitation and risk to the community, with the legal system maintaining strict oversight of his case.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judiciary to protect the public from individuals deemed a significant danger due to their violent and predatory behavior.
