NYASHA MAKUNIKE AND HIS HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MANCHESTER
A man convicted of brutally assaulting and terrorizing a woman in the Manchester area has been sentenced to prison.Nyasha Malvern Makunike, aged 26 and of no fixed address, was responsible for a violent and harrowing attack that took place in August 2016.
The incident began when the victim, a woman in her early twenties, found herself in a state of extreme distress.
She entered a shop located in Bury, a town within the Greater Manchester region, accompanied by her two young children.
At that moment, she was visibly upset and in need of help.
Recognizing her distress, she asked the shopkeeper to contact the police immediately.
The police were informed about the horrifying events that had occurred the previous day in the early hours of the morning.
During a subsequent interview with law enforcement, the woman recounted the terrifying details of her ordeal.
She revealed that she had been subjected to a sexual assault involving physical violence, specifically mentioning that she was strangled during the attack.
The assault was described as sickening and horrifying.
Further investigation and evidence presented in court uncovered that Makunike did not only commit the sexual violence but also threatened the victim verbally and physically.
He slapped her in the course of the assault, adding to the severity of the attack.
Following a thorough legal process, Nyasha Makunike was found guilty on multiple charges.
These included two counts of rape, actual bodily harm, sexual assault, and nine additional counts related to assault and harassment.
The court’s judgment underscored the heinous nature of his actions.
As part of his sentencing, Makunike will be registered on the sex offenders register for life, underscoring the serious nature of his crimes.
Detective Constable Dave Looby, who is part of Greater Manchester Police’s Bury borough, expressed his thoughts on the case.
He described the attack as brutal, emphasizing the impact on the victim who was left terrified and fearing for her life.
Looby also praised her courage in coming forward, acknowledging that her bravery played a crucial role in ensuring that Makunike was prosecuted and removed from the community.
