SEX OFFENDER ACCUSED OF FAILING TO TELL POLICE ABOUT ADDRESS CHANGE
A registered sex offender is due to stand trial after allegedly failing to comply with legal notification requirements.Portuguese national Nuno Tavares, 47, a self-employed window cleaner from Market Square, Duns, appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court charged with two alleged breaches of the Sexual Offences Act.
Prosecutors allege Tavares failed to notify police of a change in his circumstances within the required three-day period, a legal obligation placed on registered sex offenders.
He also faces a separate charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Tavares pleaded not guilty to all charges when he appeared before the court.
A trial has been scheduled to begin at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on 8 September, where the allegations will be tested in evidence.
