CHESTERFIELD MAN NORRIS SPENCER CAUGHT IN SEXUAL PLOT WITH UNDERCOVER COP IN CHESTERFIELD

In January 2021, Norris Spencer, a married man and father of six from Chesterfield, was caught in a disturbing online grooming operation that revealed his predatory intentions towards a young girl. The incident unfolded when an undercover police officer, posing as a 12-year-old girl named Caitlyn, engaged Spencer in a series of conversations that quickly turned highly inappropriate and sexualized.

According to court proceedings at Derby Crown Court, Spencer, a civil engineer by profession, initiated contact with the officer and soon began sending explicit images of his private parts. The court heard that he befriended Caitlyn over an internet messaging platform, where he falsely claimed to be a 19-year-old girl. His messages to her included compliments, such as calling her “cute,” and explicit propositions, including suggestions that she perform oral sex on him.

Spencer’s messages also involved detailed requests for photographs. He asked Caitlyn what she was wearing and encouraged her to send images of herself with her trackie bottoms pulled down to reveal her pants and her top pulled up to show her bra. In response, he sent her photographs of his genitals, further demonstrating his intent.

Prosecutor Katrina Wilson explained that these exchanges took place over several weeks during August 2019. The police, acting on intelligence, visited Spencer’s residence in Chesterfield, where he and his wife were present. During the police visit, Spencer claimed that he had only chatted and looked at pictures, asserting that he had never physically touched anyone. The police seized his mobile phone, which contained evidence of the conversations.

Following his arrest, Spencer pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. The court adjourned the hearing to allow for further psychological assessment, with Judge Nirmal Shant QC emphasizing the seriousness of the case. She stated, “These are serious matters and the question of the risk you pose to young children is one the court needs to consider very carefully. You mustn’t think this adjournment means custody is not the first thought on the court’s mind. This was a course of conduct.”

Spencer’s address was listed as Mellor Way, Birdholme, Chesterfield, and his actions have raised significant concerns about online safety and the protection of minors from predatory behavior. The case continues as authorities assess the full extent of Spencer’s conduct and potential risks to the community.
