NORBERT KONGA FLEEING FROM LONDON TO DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO AFTER CONVICTION
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Norbert Konga, a 46-year-old man originally from Stockton, has been convicted of multiple heinous sexual offences involving young children. The crimes, which spanned from 2012 to 2019, include two counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, and four counts of sexual assault against minors under the age of 13.
Despite the court's findings, Konga was not present at his trial held at Teesside Crown Court, as he had already fled the country.
It was revealed that he had moved to London prior to the proceedings, where he continued to deny the allegations against him.
The court had scheduled his appearance for August last year, but he failed to show up, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Following his conviction, Konga was handed a lengthy prison sentence.
However, he managed to evade justice by escaping before he could be taken into custody.
It is now known that he has fled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, making it significantly more challenging for law enforcement to apprehend him.
Specialist child protection detectives have issued a reminder to the public and victims alike that law enforcement agencies remain committed to pursuing justice.
They emphasize that whether the abuse is recent or has occurred in the past, police will continue to investigate and take action against perpetrators.
Investigations into Konga's activities began in 2019 after two young girls under the age of 13 came forward with allegations of abuse.
The case drew widespread attention, highlighting the importance of safeguarding children and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.
As Konga remains at large, authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
The case continues to serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable members of society.
