NISAR HUSSAIN SENTENCED IN SHEFFIELD FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY
Nisar Hussain, born on December 10, 1984, formerly residing at 70 Morgan Road, Sheffield S5 8QT, and more recently at 203 Emerson Crescent, Sheffield S5 7SY, was convicted in 2020 for leaving a dog to starve to death in his backyard. Hussain was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, with an additional 14 days for non-RSPCA matters, and 21 days for failing to surrender, with all sentences running concurrently. He was also ordered to pay £615 in costs and charges and received a lifelong ban on keeping animals.Hussain, who has connections to St David’s in Pembrokeshire, Wales, pleaded guilty in August 2016 to two offences related to a Bully Kutta named Bella. The case was adjourned for sentencing, but Hussain failed to attend, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He managed to evade capture for over four years until he was finally sentenced.
According to RSPCA Chief Inspector Lynsey Harris, “It has been almost four years since Hussain failed to appear for sentencing in relation to what happened to this dog, the previous September.” She explained that Bella’s body was found in the backyard of Hussain’s then Sheffield address—where his wife Saiqa Nisar, his partner and the mother of his children, still resides—by the dog warden, who was called the night before under the pretense that Hussain had taken the dog in as a stray.
“The dog was emaciated, covered in dirt, with her face in a pool of vomit, surrounded by mud, feces, and a large number of dog biscuits,” Harris described. She added that multiple witnesses, including herself, had seen Bella at the property tethered in the yard since August 10 and had given advice on her care.
Bully Kutta is a large breed originating in Pakistan, and it is uncommon to keep such dogs in the UK. Hussain was also implicated in a high-profile ‘crash for cash’ scheme in 2013, although he was ultimately acquitted of those charges.
Hussain’s failure to appear at sentencing and his neglect of the dog led to his current imprisonment and ban from keeping animals for life.
