NIGEL WILLIAMS FROM WIGAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN GREATER MANCHESTER

In a case that has shocked the local community, Nigel Williams, a school IT technician and learning mentor from Orrell in Wigan, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for heinous sexual offenses committed against a young boy in Greater Manchester. The conviction follows a detailed trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where Williams was found guilty of engaging in indecency and sexual activity with a minor under the age of 16.

According to reports from Greater Manchester Police, the victim was a 10-year-old boy with a keen interest in computers, which Williams exploited to establish a disturbing pattern of abuse. The offences reportedly took place over a span of several years, from 2001 to 2004, both within the confines of the primary school where Williams worked and during various trips and outings. The police statement detailed that Williams would invite the boy to the school when it was closed, under the pretense of playing computer games together, thereby creating opportunities for abuse.

Investigations revealed that most of the inappropriate acts occurred when the school was not in session, and the two were left alone. The victim recounted that Williams also took him on trips, sometimes accompanied by Williams’ own family members. Further disturbing details emerged indicating that Williams allowed the boy to stay overnight at his residence, where the abuse continued while Williams’ family members slept upstairs, unaware of the sinister activities taking place.

Det Con Suzanne Rigby, who led the investigation, emphasized the predatory nature of Williams’ actions. She stated, “Williams pleaded not guilty and forced his victim to stand trial and relive his experiences all over again. Williams is a predatory paedophile, he targeted a young vulnerable boy and used the lure of his love for computers to spend time alone with him.”

She further explained that Williams gained the trust of the boy’s family, who believed their son was in safe hands with a respected community figure. Williams was known to work with young children as both a youth worker and a school learning mentor, which made his betrayal even more devastating to the community.

In addition to his prison sentence, Williams was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to protect the public from any future risk he might pose. The case has left a lasting impact on the community in Wigan and Greater Manchester, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children from those who abuse positions of trust.
