NIGEL TURNER FROM MORECAMBE SENTENCED FOR REPEATED CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man from Lancashire has been sentenced to prison for multiple offenses involving the sexual abuse of two young children.Nigel Turner, aged 72 and from Morecambe, was taken into custody by officers from the National Crime Agency in November 2021 after he circulated numerous indecent images of the children through an online messaging platform.
Some of these images, posted under an alias, depicted him sexually abusing one of the victims.
During his arrest, authorities confiscated his phone for investigation.
Analysis revealed a collection of images and videos in which Turner was shown raping and sexually assaulting both children, as well as engaging in sexual acts in their presence on several occasions.
Although Turner's face was not visible in the media, investigators identified him through clues such as clothing, jewelry, and voice recognition technology.
Turner faced a total of 21 charges, including seven counts of raping a child under the age of 13, three counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and 12 counts related to the distribution, creation, and possession of indecent images of children at the most severe category A, as well as categories B and C.
In December of the previous year, Turner admitted guilt to all the charges.
On March 14, 2022, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison at Preston Crown Court.
Additionally, he was issued a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Hazel Stewart from the National Crime Agency commented, 'Turner carried out the most serious sexual abuse on these children.
His crimes are truly incomprehensible.' She added, 'After capturing the abuse on his phone, Turner shared it online using a fake profile in an attempt to conceal his identity.
He thought this might protect him, but the NCA has significant capabilities to uncover offenders who use anonymization techniques, and we are dedicating those resources to apprehending the most dangerous criminals.'
