NIGEL THOMASON'S SHOCKING CRIME IN OXFORD: SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL LEADS TO SUSPENDED SENTENCE
In January 2010, Nigel Thomason, a 41-year-old man from Oxford, appeared before Oxford Crown Court to face serious allegations related to his conduct involving a minor.The court proceedings revealed that Thomason was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was just shy of her 14th birthday.
Despite the gravity of the offense, the judge handed down a sentence that was suspended for two years, meaning Thomason would not serve immediate prison time but would be under strict conditions.
The presiding judge, Mary Mowat, addressed the court and emphasized the severity of Thomason's actions.
She stated, “You did something you knew was very wrong and ended up having sex with a girl that was only 13.
Whether you knew her age or not, you had the duty as a man in his 40’s to make sure she was the legal age.” This comment underscored the responsibility that adults have to ensure they do not engage in illegal or harmful conduct with minors.
Judge Mowat further explained her perspective on the case, noting that the girl was “just short of 14 years old.” She acknowledged that many girls of that age are sexually active, which, while not ideal, is a reality that society must recognize.
The judge pointed out that the girl had expressed her desire for Thomason not to be imprisoned, and she highlighted that both parties involved were vulnerable in different ways.
The judge described the incident as “stupidity rather than malice,” suggesting that Thomason’s actions were driven more by poor judgment than any malicious intent.
As part of the court’s ruling, Thomason was prohibited from working with children under the age of 16.
Additionally, a supervision order lasting 12 months was imposed, requiring him to adhere to certain conditions and be monitored to prevent any further misconduct.
