Fleetwood Rapist
In October 2017, Nigel William Robinson, a man with no fixed address from Fleetwood, was sentenced to a substantial prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young children. The court proceedings, held at Preston Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning over a decade, beginning as early as 2005.

Robinson, aged 46 at the time of sentencing, faced a total of 34 charges related to sexual offenses involving four different children. The severity and number of charges led Judge Andrew Woolman to describe him as a ‘dangerous offender,’ emphasizing the threat he posed to the community. As part of his sentence, Robinson was also given an eight-year extended license, which will require him to adhere to strict conditions upon release, including lifelong registration as a sex offender and a ban on any contact with female children.

One of Robinson’s victims, who is unable to be named due to legal restrictions, publicly expressed her relief and the significance of the guilty plea. She stated, “The fact he pleaded guilty was a massive weight off all our shoulders. The judge realised how he can get in people’s heads and that he is a dangerous man.” She further commented on Robinson’s statement, which claimed he could not stop himself, describing it as indicative of his dangerous nature. She also expressed her belief that the 24-year extended sentence was appropriate and fair given the gravity of his crimes.

The court heard that Robinson’s offending began in 2005, with his first victim. He was convicted of seven counts of rape and seven sexual assaults against her, with her age at the time ranging from eight to 15 years old. His crimes against her were particularly severe, involving multiple instances of sexual violence. Robinson also pleaded guilty to two counts of rape against a second victim, who was 13 and 14 years old at the time, along with additional sexual assaults and incitement of a child to engage in sexual activity.

Further, Robinson admitted to abusing a third victim, aged between 13 and 15, committing three sexual assaults and inciting her to engage in sexual acts. His offending was not limited to the past; he also admitted to sexually assaulting a fourth victim as recently as 2012, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior over several years.

In his sentencing, Judge Woolman emphasized the dangerousness of Robinson’s actions and the impact on his victims. The court imposed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, explicitly banning him from any contact with female children. Additionally, Robinson was ordered to sign the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions. The judge’s verdict underscores the seriousness of his crimes and the community’s need for protection from such a dangerous individual.
