LAVENHAM MAN NIGEL LYONS HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SEX OFFENCE
A 71-year-old man named Nigel Lyons was sentenced for a sex offence after online chats with a person he believed was a 14-year-old girl.Lyons had communicated with a paedophile hunter posing as a teenage girl, during which he sent nude pictures of himself and expressed a desire to meet her.
He also talked about kissing, cuddling, and sex, and revealed his telephone number and address during the conversations.
Lyons admitted to attempting sexual communication with a child between May 9 and June 8 of the previous year.
He received a suspended prison sentence of eight months, which is to be served over 18 months, along with a 40-day rehabilitation requirement, 100 hours of unpaid work, and a £150 costs order.
Additionally, he was placed under a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years, ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the same period, and was given a sentence of rehabilitative restrictions.
The judge highlighted that Lyons asked for images of the person he believed was a 14-year-old girl without specifying they should be indecent and emphasized his remorse.
His solicitor, Joe Bird, characterized the offence as unsophisticated and noted there was no evidence Lyons intended to meet the decoy.
