MAN WITH EPILEPSY KILLS MOTHER, DETAINED INDEFINITELY
Nigel Constable, who has a longstanding history of epileptic seizures, was found responsible for an attack that resulted in the death of his mother, Betty, at her residence in Dunholme. The assault caused severe head trauma, ultimately leading to her demise.
During proceedings at Lincoln Crown Court, the jury determined that Constable was suffering from insanity at the time of the incident.
Consequently, he was acquitted on the grounds of insanity and will be committed to a secure mental health facility indefinitely.
The court heard that he has no memory of the attack and that his seizures had become more frequent over the past three decades, with stress stemming from issues related to his benefits and housing worsening his condition.
His legal team described him as a victim of epilepsy, stressing that his actions were beyond his control.
His family also voiced their sorrow and pointed out that his declining health had played a role in the tragic event.
