Basildon Sexual Abuser
In December 2011, Nigel Andrews, aged 47, from Woolmer Green, Basildon, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a girl under the age of 14. Andrews faced three charges of indecent assault but denied the allegations; however, a jury at Basildon Crown Court found him guilty.
The court heard that the offences took place in Leigh over a span of five years. Judge Ian Graham remarked, “These were such serious cases which took place over a prolonged period. They have had a terrible effect on the victim and your family, who are often forgotten about in cases like this. Your offending had a profound effect on the girl and has affected her attempts to develop relationships with men. Her life has been blighted by what happened to her.”
Andrews’ solicitor, Clare Ashcroft, described him as a dedicated family man who had been married for 20 years, stating, “He is a man of good character.” As part of his sentence, Andrews will also be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.
