November 2014 A man has been jailed for four years after admitting sexual activity with a 14 yr old girl Nicky Ross, 26, from Workington, was sentenced this morning at Carlisle Crown Court. He had admitted five counts of sexual activity with a child. The court heard that the assaults only came to light after the victim’s parents contacted the police in August, to raise concerns about a relationship between their 14-year-old daughter and Ross. The victim later told detectives he had sexually abused her. Detective Constable Ruth Greenhow, the investigating officer, said: “Ross was in a position of trust with the victim’s family and used this to his advantage to allow him to have regular contact with the victim. “He took advantage of a 14-year-old girl who didn’t fully understand what was happening.” Katie Nicolson, senior crown prosecutor for CPS North West, added: “The sexual abuse of young people strips away their innocence and their trust in adults, who they should be able to look up to as future role models. “The effects on the victims of such abuse is immeasurable and can have a long lasting impact on their lives.”
