NICKSON STORIE FROM LANCASHIRE SENTENCED FOR BREACHES OF SEX OFFENDER ORDERS

Nickson Storie, a 39-year-old convicted sex offender from Lancashire, faced the courts in Burnley Crown Court on Friday, September 27, after committing multiple violations of court-imposed restrictions designed to monitor and control his behavior.

Storie’s latest appearance was marked by serious breaches of a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) and his failure to comply with the requirements of his sexual offender notification obligations.

The prosecution, led by Amy Weir, outlined that Storie was under a SOPO following a 2013 conviction at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where he was found guilty of causing a child under 16 to watch a sexual act.

This order explicitly prohibited him from using any device capable of internet access unless his search history could be fully accessed and monitored.

Despite these restrictions, police officers regularly visited Storie’s residence to conduct compliance checks.

During one such visit in February, officers discovered that there had been no internet activity on his devices for approximately six months.

Storie admitted to using his device to view pornography but claimed he had been employing Incognito mode on his browser to conceal his activity, stating he did not want others to see what he was doing.

In addition to the internet-related breach, Storie was found to have failed twice to provide officers with the login details for his Snapchat account, thereby breaching his notification requirements.

Prosecutor Amy Weir emphasized that Storie’s deletion of his search history was a deliberate act, and highlighted that his repeated offences were aggravated by a longstanding pattern of disobedience to court orders.

It was revealed during the hearing that Storie had accumulated 14 previous convictions from a total of 32 offences.

These included nine sex-related offences, such as public indecency in 2003, failure to comply with notification requirements in 2007, sending grossly offensive or obscene messages in 2011, and exposure in 2013.

His record also shows breaches of a SOPO and notification requirements in 2018, as well as violating a sexual harm prevention order in 2019.

Defense counsel Richard English argued that Storie, who had spent four months on remand, was now in a position to be released from custody under strict conditions.

He conveyed that his client had expressed to him that the time spent in custody had been a sobering experience.

However, Judge Daniel Prowse was unequivocal in his sentencing.

He pointed out that one of the key terms of the SOPO explicitly forbade Storie from accessing the internet unless such activity was recorded and monitored by authorities.

The judge emphasized that the purpose of this restriction was to enable police and courts to oversee his online activities effectively.

Prowse stated that Storie’s repeated breaches demonstrated a clear failure to learn from previous suspended sentences and posed an ongoing risk to others.

Consequently, Judge Prowse sentenced Nickson Storie, of Whitehall Street, Nelson, to 15 months in prison, reflecting the seriousness of his violations and the court’s concern over his continued disobedience to court orders and restrictions.
