NICK OAKLAND'S RAMPAGE IN YORK ENDS IN 19-MONTH JAIL SENTENCE AND DRIVING BAN

In a tragic incident that unfolded in York, Nicholas Brian Oakland, born around 1992 and believed to be deceased, was involved in a reckless and dangerous act that resulted in the death of a beloved support dog.

Oakland, residing at Cecelia Place, Holgate, York with the postcode YO24 4BG, caused a series of events on February 24, 2022, that shocked the local community and drew the attention of law enforcement authorities.

According to court records, Oakland stole a Range Rover Sport, a vehicle that contained Jake, a Doberman support dog, in its boot.

The theft was not an ordinary carjacking; it escalated into a high-speed police chase that reached speeds of up to 124 miles per hour.

During this dangerous pursuit, Oakland’s reckless driving led to the loss of control of the vehicle, which then barrel-rolled into a nearby field, causing significant damage and chaos.

Following the crash, Jake, the support dog, fled the scene in a panic.

Despite efforts by police to track him down, the dog was eventually located but succumbed to neck or spinal injuries a few weeks later.

The loss of Jake was a devastating blow to his owner and the community, highlighting the tragic consequences of Oakland’s actions.

Oakland faced multiple charges, including dangerous driving, aggravated taking of a vehicle, animal cruelty, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

These charges stemmed from the events of that day, which painted a picture of a man with a troubling history of dangerous driving behaviors.

Court records reveal that Oakland had previously served prison sentences for various reckless driving incidents, such as damaging a Park & Ride bus, driving through cones into a road closed for roadworks, speeding at 70 mph through Tang Hall at night without lights, and ramming a police car.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Sean Morris of York addressed Oakland directly, stating, “When you are in drink or drugs, you are a one-man crime wave.

On this occasion, you drove like a lunatic.

You could have killed people and you caused terrible suffering to someone’s precious friend and pet, who had to be put down.” The judge emphasized the severity of Oakland’s driving record and the danger he posed to the public.

Despite the gravity of the case, the maximum sentence available was two years.

However, due to Oakland’s guilty plea, the sentence was reduced by a third.

The judge remarked on Oakland’s mental health, noting that his condition fluctuated depending on his drug use and that his time in custody had been beneficial.

Ultimately, Oakland was sentenced to 19 months in prison and was handed a driving ban, effectively removing him from the roads for a significant period.

The case has garnered attention from local and national news outlets, including the Northern Echo and ITV News, highlighting the tragic consequences of reckless behavior and the importance of accountability in such incidents.
