NICHOLAS STANSFIELD AND HORRIFIC PAEDOPHILE CRIME IN BRADNINCH AND NORTH TAMERTON
A disturbing case of child sexual exploitation and possession of indecent images has emerged involving Nicholas Stansfield, a man with deep ties to the North Tamerton area, who also has connections to Bradninch. The incident came to light after a detailed investigation by law enforcement authorities that revealed a pattern of serious criminal behavior.Stansfield, aged 25 and residing on Victory Road in North Tamerton near Holsworthy, was found to have been actively involved in an internet-based paedophile ring. Over several months, he exchanged messages with at least three other men, sharing graphic and disturbing content related to their illegal interests. The investigation uncovered that he had recently carried out a heinous act of sexual assault against a five-year-old girl while he was visiting her family in West Devon.
According to reports, during his stay as a guest at the residence, Stansfield entered the young girl’s bedroom while she was asleep. He took a sexually explicit image of himself with his genitals touching her mouth. Additionally, he photographed the girl and her sister – both minors – from the family’s Facebook profile and shared these images with other predators online. The family was initially unaware of the assault until the police obtained evidence and Stansfield himself admitted to his crimes during a police interview.
The victim’s mother expressed her devastation and heartbreak over the incident, stating that her entire family has been torn apart by the revelations. The imagery, which included a total of 268 images and videos, was classified as the most severe category of sexual abuse material, with some images depicting the assault of infants. The police investigation also found that Stansfield had downloaded and shared numerous other indecent images, including photographs of young children in school uniforms, the identities of whom were traced through social media efforts.
Law enforcement officials revealed that the police raided Stansfield’s residence in September 2019 after finding evidence that he had sent highly serious images from his IP address. Electronic device examinations confirmed that he had shared fantasies and images with other men, describing abuse involving a young girl he referred to as “sexy and beautiful.” The collection of images on his devices numbered 778, with 268 categorised as the worst form of indecent images. Further, police recovered seven particularly serious images that had been shared with him.
The police also uncovered a collection of weapons in Stansfield’s vehicle during his arrest, including two air rifles, two hunting knives, a flick knife, and two kitchen knives, indicating potential dangers beyond the digital sphere.
Stansfield was prosecuted, and during his court appearance at Exeter Crown Court, Judge David Evans sentenced him to two years and six months in prison. In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was imposed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order restricts his contact with minors and limits his internet use to prevent further offenses.
The court heard the impact his actions had on the victims’ family; the judge acknowledged the profound damage caused by the assault on the sleeping five-year-old girl and the emotional distress inflicted on her loved ones. His lawyer, Mr. Rupert Taylor, highlighted that Stansfield had experienced an abusive and troubled childhood, which contributed to his developmental issues and lack of maturity at the time of the offenses. Since the incidents, Stansfield has reportedly moved forward with his life; he has acquired a partner, gained employment at a local shop, and is actively seeking psychological treatment and counseling to address his issues.
Overall, this case underscores the grave dangers of online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat such reprehensible crimes. The community remains watching as justice is served and measures are taken to prevent future tragedies involving vulnerable children.
