NICHOLAS SMITH AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE MANUAL IN CHESHIRE
A man named Nicholas Smith, based in Cheshire, who authored an extensively detailed 'step-by-step paedophile manual,' was sentenced to a prison term of just 16 months.The disturbing document, titled 'How to Practise Child Love – A Paedo’s Guide,' was described by the author as a comprehensive guide on how to engage in what he called 'safe and harmless love with a child.' Investigations revealed the severity of his offenses, uncovering more than 10,000 indecent images at his residence in Bollington, a town within Cheshire.
Authorities also found video clips that depicted instances of child abuse, contributing to the gravity of his criminal activities.
Nicholas Simon Smith, a father of one, experienced his house being raided by police in February 2017.
During this operation, law enforcement officials confiscated his computer along with various USB sticks, which were later examined and linked to his offending behaviors.
The case was brought before Chester Crown Court, where Judge David Hale observed some of the content and described it as 'absolutely repulsive.' The documents and digital evidence included a total of 10,837 images, among which 133 were classified as 'category A,' indicating the most severe forms of child abuse imagery.
Prosecutor Jayne Morris explained that these images had been accumulated over a period exceeding ten years, with the initial searches beginning when Smith was in his mid to late 20s.
Over time, the frequency and compulsiveness of his collecting escalated.
Smith admitted to possessing seven counts of indecent images of children, as well as the manual he authored, and additional charges related to possession of indecent computer-generated images depicting minors, along with extreme pornography.
During police interviews, Smith justified his actions by citing 'family and work pressures' as motivations for seeking out such material, particularly targeting young girls aged 10 or 11.
Defense lawyer Mark Connor argued that the manual was downloaded along with other content and emphasized that there had been no allegations or evidence suggesting any physical contact offenses.
He also mentioned the significant impact the arrest had had on Smith’s family, highlighting that his client had expressed remorse and shame regarding his actions.
Furthermore, it was noted that Smith had actively sought treatment for his addiction to such material, undergoing weekly therapy sessions.
Despite these efforts, Judge Hale stated that the extensive possession of the manual, the sheer volume of illicit images, and the prolonged period of offending left little choice but to impose immediate custodial sentences.
Consequently, Smith was sentenced to 16 months in prison and was also subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, aimed at protecting the community from further incidents.
