A man from Staffordshire, Nicholas McCabe, aged 57 and residing in Ipstones, has been found guilty on an extensive list of serious sexual offense charges following a comprehensive nine-day trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The conviction includes a total of 25 counts related to the abuse of multiple victims over a span of years, highlighting the severity and duration of his criminal actions.
Specifically, McCabe was convicted on eight counts of raping a girl under the age of 16, four counts of raping an adult woman, eight counts of indecent assault against a girl under 16, three counts of sexual assault on a female aged 13 or older, and two additional counts of sexual assault on a female.
These charges paint a disturbing picture of a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned from the 1990s into the 2000s within Staffordshire.
The court proceedings revealed that the victims endured a prolonged campaign of abuse, with the earliest incidents dating back to the 1990s.
The investigation was sparked when one survivor courageously came forward in July 2020, sharing their ordeal publicly.
This act of bravery prompted law enforcement to begin a thorough investigation, during which they gathered substantial evidence to build a case against McCabe.
Following the initial disclosure, additional survivors stepped forward, providing vital testimonies that strengthened the case.
McCabe was detained and questioned by authorities, during which he denied all allegations.
The investigation was led by Detective Constable Diane Sproston and Investigative Officer Janine Shropshire, both members of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit (RASSO).
Their relentless efforts to support the victims and compile evidence culminated in the 25 charges being formally brought against McCabe in 2022.
Thanks to the strength of the evidence collected, the jury at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court unanimously found McCabe guilty on all 25 counts.
The court has scheduled his sentencing for 11 October 2024, where he will face the consequences of his actions.
Detective Constable Sproston and Investigative Officer Shropshire expressed their appreciation for the bravery shown by the survivors, emphasizing that their willingness to come forward was crucial in securing justice.
They acknowledged that while the legal outcome cannot undo the trauma inflicted, it provides a measure of closure and accountability for the victims.
The officers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting survivors and ensuring that offenders like McCabe are held responsible for their crimes.
