NICHOLAS MANNING SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN LINCOLNSHIRE
A man from Lincolnshire, Nicholas Manning, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.The incident took place in Lincolnshire, and Manning, aged 50, of Edwards Street in Grantham, was found guilty of three counts of assault by touching and one count of assault by penetration, all involving a girl under the age of 13.
The convictions followed an eight-day trial held at Lincoln Crown Court in July, during which the jury deliberated on the evidence presented against him.
Despite being convicted of these charges, Manning was acquitted of two additional counts of rape and another charge of assault by touching.
All the offenses occurred on a single day in January of the same year, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior within a very short time frame.
During the court proceedings, an impact statement was read aloud by the victim, who described the profound emotional and psychological toll the assault had taken on her.
She revealed that she now struggles with sleep, experiences flashbacks, and has difficulty eating.
The girl also expressed that discussing the incidents has been extremely challenging, and as a result, she has become less sociable and withdrawn from her usual activities.
The victim’s mother shared her own feelings of helplessness and distress, explaining that the court process left her feeling numb and physically ill.
She also noted that her daughter’s schooling has been adversely affected by the trauma, adding, “It broke my heart to see her go through it.” In Manning’s defense, his legal representative, Chris Jeyes, argued that the psychological impact on the victim was not among the most severe categories of trauma.
Mr.
Jeyes also contended that Manning did not intentionally use alcohol as a means to facilitate the offenses, emphasizing that Manning has no previous convictions of a similar nature.
Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight delivered the sentence, emphasizing the vulnerability of the young victim and the brutality of the assaults, which occurred while she was drifting in and out of consciousness.
The judge highlighted the significant impact these crimes had on the victim’s well-being and life.
As part of his punishment, Manning was also ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the public from further harm.
