NELSON SOARES SENTENCED IN OXFORD FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND EXPOSURE INCIDENTS
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention in Oxford, Nelson Soares, a 28-year-old man residing on Shelford Place, was formally sentenced for multiple serious sexual offences following a thorough investigation by Thames Valley Police. The proceedings took place at Oxford Crown Court, where Soares pleaded guilty to a series of charges that highlight the severity of his actions and the ongoing concerns about public safety in the area.
On January 17, 2020, the court heard that Soares admitted to one count of sexual assault by penetration, one count of voyeurism, two counts of trespass with the intent to commit a sexual offence, and five separate counts of exposure.
These charges stem from a series of disturbing incidents that occurred over the course of 2019, with the most notable being an assault on a young woman in the early hours of February 9, 2019.
The incident on Divinity Road involved Soares gaining unauthorized access to a property by exploiting an insecure window.
Once inside, he sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman, an act that caused significant distress and alarm within the local community.
The court was told that this assault was part of a pattern of predatory behavior, which included other trespassing incidents and exposure cases.
Another trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence was recorded on June 1, 2019, in the Headington area.
Additionally, Soares was responsible for five separate exposure incidents that took place across Headington during 2019.
These incidents occurred on different occasions, with two in January, two in June, and one in August, each involving inappropriate exposure in public settings, further demonstrating a disturbing pattern of behavior.
Today, at the sentencing hearing, the court sentenced Nelson Soares to a term of ten years in prison.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of his crimes and the impact on the victims and the community.
Furthermore, Soares was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, reflecting the gravity of his offences.
An extended license period of four years was also imposed, meaning he will be subject to strict monitoring and restrictions even after his release from prison.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Oxford to address and deter sexual offences, ensuring that offenders are held accountable and public safety is prioritized.
