NEIL WARNER SHOCKS NEWPORT AND SWINDON WITH BRUTAL ATTACK ON MUM AND CHILDREN
In a disturbing incident that took place in West Swindon, Neil Warner, a 26-year-old man with a troubling criminal history, was convicted and sentenced for a violent assault on a mother and her young children. The assault involved extreme physical violence and emotional abuse, leaving a lasting impact on the victims and prompting a serious legal response.
According to court reports, Warner's violent outburst began when he was playing computer games with one of the older children in the household.
The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had simply put her head around the door to check on the situation.
This seemingly innocent action provoked Warner, who responded with a barrage of verbal abuse, shouting accusations and threats.
He yelled at her, claiming, “I know what you think: you think I am a nonce and I am going to rape your kids,” as detailed by the prosecution.
Simon Goodman, the prosecutor, explained that Warner believed the mother was checking up on him, which he perceived as suspicion.
He accused her of being worse than a social worker, further escalating his anger.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control as Warner threatened her, saying, “I’m going to have you: end up killing you,” before leaving the room and returning with a horrifying display of violence.
Warner then proceeded to hold the three-year-old boy upside down by his ankle, a position described by the mother in police statements as “like the way a chicken is held,” with the child swinging back and forth.
Court documents reveal that Warner held the boy upside down by his legs, then delivered two to three forceful smacks on his bottom over the child's nappy, using an open palm.
The force of the blows caused the child to swing each time he was struck, and Warner eventually dropped him onto the bed.
Following this, Warner turned his aggression toward the mother.
He punched her five times in the face, causing her to cower on the bed with her young son.
He then grabbed her by the hair, punched her forehead, and verbally abused her, dragging her out of the room, down the stairs, and ultimately throwing her to the floor.
The assault left her with a split lip and visible bruising.
During the chaos, Warner expressed remorse, breaking down and stating he wanted to go to prison because he believed he was a danger to others and himself.
He urged the mother to call the police, but when she attempted to leave the house in West Swindon in March of the previous year, he attacked her again, throwing her onto the sofa.
Her nine-year-old daughter witnessed the entire ordeal and pleaded with Warner to leave her mother alone.
Warner responded to her plea with hostility, telling her to “Shut your mouth” and “Keep out of it,” before hitting her again, which caused blood to flow from her nose and mouth.
As she ran upstairs crying, Warner prevented her from leaving the room to seek comfort, further demonstrating his violent and controlling behavior.
Warner, who provided his father’s address in Newport, Gwent, pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm, common assault, and criminal damage.
His criminal record includes previous convictions for similar offenses, indicating a pattern of violent behavior.
Judge Euan Ambrose sentenced Warner to 27 months in prison.
In his remarks, the judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, noting the vulnerability of all victims involved.
He highlighted that Warner’s actions—holding a three-year-old upside down and physically assaulting the mother and her daughter—were particularly egregious.
The judge also imposed a five-year restraining order, banning Warner from contacting the victims or their family members, to prevent further harm and ensure their safety.
