EX-PREMIER LEAGUE STAR SENTENCED FOR PUBLIC EXPOSURE
A former Premier League footballer, Neil Shipperley, has been sentenced to a 12-month community order after he was found guilty of exposing his genitals from inside his van in Hillingdon, West London, on 17 September.
The incident involved Shipperley intentionally exposing himself in front of a mother and her 16-year-old daughter, which the mother described as an act of a predator who aimed to intimidate, violate, shock, and scare them.
Shipperley, aged 45, was driving his van when he stopped, wound down the window, and exposed himself.
After the victims acknowledged him, he followed their pathway in his vehicle.
During the court case, the prosecutor, Shaan Sethi, revealed that Shipperley's behaviour was deliberate and aimed at causing alarm or distress.
The court also heard from the mother in a victim impact statement, stating: 'Some people may see flashers as pests or a nuisance to society.
My view of Neil Shipperley is as a predator.
His aim was to intimidate us, to violate us, to shock us and to scare us.' Shipperley's lawyer argued that everything came to a head on the day in question and suggested it was a cry for help, considering his personal struggles that included the death of his father, gambling issues, and debts.
A former professional footballer for clubs including Crystal Palace, Wimbledon, Chelsea, and Southampton, Shipperley was also ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation, undertake 120 hours of unpaid work, and pay a £90 victim surcharge, £85 in legal costs, and £200 in compensation.
He is also subject to a five-year sexual offences notification requirement and must report to Hayes police station within three days.
