NEIL OGDEN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE DISCUSSIONS AND IMAGE DISTRIBUTION IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

Neil Ogden, a 46-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing criminal activities involving the exploitation and abuse of children.

The case revealed that Ogden engaged in conversations with another individual about the sexual abuse of minors, as well as possessing and sharing indecent images of children, some of which were classified as the most severe category.

The police investigation was initiated after authorities received intelligence regarding Ogden’s online activity, specifically concerning the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

On January 25, law enforcement officers visited Ogden’s residence in Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, where they promptly arrested him.

Following his arrest, Ogden’s mobile phone was seized and subjected to a detailed forensic analysis.

The examination of Ogden’s device uncovered a disturbing collection of illegal content.

Authorities found a total of 46 still images classified as Category A, indicating the most serious level of indecency, along with 31 images in Category B and 33 in Category C.

In addition to these, there were two images deemed prohibited under law, as well as two images categorized as extreme pornography.

The device also contained 32 moving images at Category A, five at Category B, five at Category C, and two extreme pornographic videos.

Prosecutor Antony Longworth provided further details about the nature of Ogden’s offending.

He explained that the children depicted in the images ranged in age from as young as three to 14 years old.

The investigation revealed that Ogden had shared seven Category A images with another individual, indicating a serious level of involvement in the distribution of child exploitation material.

The police also discovered that Ogden used specific search terms that suggested a sexual interest in children.

Moreover, he had created dedicated folders on his device to store these illicit images.

The case also uncovered evidence of direct communication between Ogden and another person, during which they discussed the physical development of children and expressed a desire to engage in sexual activities involving minors.

Between May 13 and May 27, 2022, the two individuals exchanged messages that detailed their intentions to sexually abuse children and even discussed the possibility of participating in joint sexual acts with multiple minors.

The messages included the exchange of images, further highlighting the severity of Ogden’s criminal conduct.

Ogden, who resides on Sneyd Street in Cobridge, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of distributing such images, possession of prohibited images, possession of extreme pornographic material, and publishing an obscene article.

During the sentencing hearing, Rob Holt, representing Ogden, acknowledged his client’s awareness of his problematic behavior and noted that Ogden had taken some initial steps toward addressing his issues.

Holt mentioned that Ogden had received support from mental health and liaison teams.

He also highlighted the personal hardships Ogden had faced, including the death of his father, the breakdown of his marriage, and being on sick leave from work, which contributed to his mental health struggles.

Holt revealed that Ogden had experienced suicidal thoughts and expressed concern about his ability to reintegrate into society, especially given his status on the sex offenders’ register.

Despite these mitigating factors, the judge, Recorder Julian Taylor, emphasized the gravity of Ogden’s offenses.

He stated that the nature of the crimes, particularly the discussions about sexually abusing children, was profoundly serious and warranted a custodial sentence.

Recorder Taylor described Ogden’s conduct as “thoroughly disgusting” and made it clear that he did not believe Ogden was manipulated into his actions.

The court ordered the confiscation and destruction of Ogden’s phone to prevent further misuse.

Additionally, Ogden was placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same duration, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior to protect the community from further harm.
