Fulham Domestic Abuser
The keyboard player with the band Wet Wet Wet, Neil Mitchell, aged 44 from Glasgow, was ordered to participate in a domestic violence program after admitting to assaulting his partner Olivia Warren during a drunken argument at her home in Fulham last July. During the incident, Mitchell pushed and punched Miss Warren, who suffered a black eye and a bruised shoulder in what was described as a shameful attack. The court heard that she had trouble sleeping and was prescribed Valium afterward. Mitchell had earlier denied assaulting Miss Warren causing actual bodily harm but changed his plea at a hearing last month. He was sentenced by Judge Shani Barnes to a two-year community order with the condition to attend a domestic violence program. The judge emphasized that domestic violence is never acceptable even if the victim fought back, and stated, "It is shameful that you should come before the courts at all - let alone for using such violence against your partner. I have no doubt that you are a mild-mannered gentle man by nature." The incident was caused after they consumed three bottles of wine, and Mitchell sought help from a psychotherapist following the attack.
