NEIL MCINTOSH FROM GLASGOW SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL RAPE AND ABUSE IN GLASGOW AND INVERNESS-SHIRE

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community, Neil McIntosh, a 31-year-old carpet fitter from Glasgow, was sentenced to ten and a half years in prison for a prolonged campaign of sexual assault and physical abuse against two women.

The crimes spanned several years and involved disturbing acts of violence, including one incident where he attacked a woman in front of her five-year-old son, shouting for him to leave his mother alone.

During the proceedings at the High Court in Glasgow, temporary judge Norman Ritchie QC condemned McIntosh’s actions, describing them as a sustained course of savagery.

The judge emphasized the brutality of the assaults, stating, “This was a sustained course of savagery.

You displayed unbridled viciousness and you raped these women repeatedly.

The effects for your victims will be long-standing, perhaps even permanent.” Judge Ritchie also noted that, had McIntosh not entered an early guilty plea, he would have faced a sentence of twelve years.

The court heard that McIntosh’s violence was not limited to sexual assault; he also physically assaulted one of his victims to the point of unconsciousness while her young son watched, crying out for his mother to be left alone.

This particular abuse lasted over six years, with McIntosh repeatedly attacking the woman, including an incident where he attempted to drown her.

Following the end of his abusive relationship with the first victim, McIntosh moved on to a second woman, whom he regularly visited at her Glasgow residence.

His pattern of violence and sexual assault continued there, with McIntosh repeatedly beating and raping her.

The second victim’s ordeal came to light when a friend, upon discovering the abuse, contacted the police.

The authorities responded swiftly, and McIntosh was detained.

McIntosh, who is currently incarcerated at Barlinnie Prison, admitted to a series of serious crimes.

He pleaded guilty to multiple counts of assault and rape committed at various addresses in Inverness-shire from January 1999 to November 2005.

Additionally, he confessed to similar offenses against the second woman at her Glasgow home between January and September 2009.

Prosecutor Leanne Cross provided details of the first victim’s suffering, revealing that McIntosh began his assault in January 1999.

She explained, “He held her down on the bed and forcibly raped her.

This happened repeatedly before she realised that it was ‘easier to give in’.” The court was also told that McIntosh often beat the woman in front of her son, who would try to intervene, shouting, “Leave mummy alone.” One particularly violent incident involved McIntosh throwing the woman against a wall, rendering her unconscious.

When she regained consciousness, her young son was lying over her, crying.

The court heard that McIntosh also held her head underwater for extended periods while she was running her son’s bath, further illustrating the brutality of his actions.

The victim eventually severed all contact with McIntosh, choosing to remain silent about her ordeal until the second victim’s report to the police.

The second woman’s account was equally disturbing; she called a friend during one of the assaults, appearing “virtually hysterical,” prompting her friend to contact law enforcement.

When police arrived at her Glasgow home, she disclosed the full extent of her abuse, leading to McIntosh’s arrest.

Following his arrest, the second victim was treated in hospital for a perforated eardrum and a broken hand.

In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Ritchie ordered McIntosh to be placed on the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities in the future.
