A man convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl has been sentenced to prison.
Following a trial at Bolton Crown Court, 47-year-old Neil George Jones of Dale Lane, Warrington, was found guilty of eight child sex offenses, including sexual activity with a minor and sexual assault.
He received a six-year custodial sentence today.
The abuse occurred over a period of at least twelve months at a residence in Whitefield, Bury.
It began when the girl was just four years old, and the last incident happened hours before she confided in her mother about what had happened.
Jones was arrested shortly after.
Detective Constable Carol Meeks from the Public Protection Investigation Unit commented: "The young girl displayed remarkable bravery in telling her mother about Jones’s actions.
While seeing him held accountable may bring some relief, the impact on them both has been profound." "Jones subjected the girl to terrible abuse under the false pretense of playing 'games,' for which he has rightly been imprisoned." "GMP maintains a team of specialized detectives dedicated to working with victims of sexual abuse, regardless of their age or when the abuse took place.
The work is challenging, but it is rewarding to see justice served and a perpetrator behind bars."
