EX-NOTTINGHAMSHIRE DETECTIVE CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE COUNTS OF RAPE
A former detective constable with Nottinghamshire Police has been charged with four counts of rape.Neil Bellamy, 60, of Keyworth, has also been charged with assault by penetration and misconduct in a public office, the force stated.The allegations pertain to the same woman and are alleged to have occurred between 2006 and 2007 while Mr.
Bellamy was attached to a domestic abuse support unit, according to a police spokesperson.
Mr.
Bellamy, who retired from the police force in 2019, is scheduled to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.At the time of the alleged offences, police say Mr.
Bellamy was based at Oxclose Lane Police Station, Arnold, and the case has been investigated by the force's public protection unit.His last posting was within the fraud unit.The police spokesperson clarified that they are unable to comment further on the case at this stage.
Additionally, they stated that this defendant should not be confused with another former Nottinghamshire Police officer with the same name, who is a former Bassetlaw neighbourhood policing inspector and remains employed within the force's Prevention Hub.
