NEIL ARMSTRONG OF SUNDERLAND CAUGHT IN DARK JUSTICE STING TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH UNDERAGE GIRL IN ONLINE CHAT

In August 2019, Neil Armstrong, a resident of Sunderland, found himself at the center of a serious online sting operation conducted by the organization Dark Justice.

Known by the alias ‘Moon Man’ on a dating app, Armstrong was lured into a trap designed to catch adults seeking inappropriate contact with minors.

The operation involved setting up fake profiles to identify individuals attempting to engage with underage children through digital platforms.

Armstrong, aged 48, initiated contact with a profile on the popular dating app Blendr.

The profile was part of the undercover setup by Dark Justice, which aimed to expose those seeking illicit interactions with minors.

After establishing initial contact, Armstrong continued the conversation by moving it to WhatsApp, despite being explicitly told that he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl named Amy.

The chat initially revolved around innocent topics such as clothes, school friends, and music, but soon took a darker turn.

According to the prosecution, Neil Armstrong’s messages became increasingly sexual in nature.

Over a span of 12 days, he engaged in conversations that included explicit content and discussions about having sex with the girl.

Although no plans were made to meet in person, the content of the exchanges raised significant concern for the authorities.

The Dark Justice team, alarmed by the nature of the conversations, promptly alerted the police to the situation.

Following the alert, Neil Armstrong was arrested by law enforcement officers.

During the subsequent investigation, he admitted to attempting to communicate sexually with a minor.

His address was identified as Fordenbridge Square, Sunderland.

The case was brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where Armstrong faced charges related to attempted sexual communication with a child.

Judge Jeremy Freedman sentenced Armstrong to a community order for two years, which includes requirements for rehabilitation.

Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register and comply with a sexual harm prevention order for a period of five years.

The judge expressed that Armstrong’s actions appeared to be driven by being ‘carried away’ during the online exchanges, emphasizing that he likely had no intention of meeting or engaging in a sexual relationship with the girl in real life.

Judge Freedman acknowledged that Armstrong was a man who needed assistance but clarified that the conversations, although inappropriate and sexual, were unlikely to escalate beyond the digital realm.

The court’s decision reflected a balance between recognizing the seriousness of the conduct and understanding that no physical meeting or further criminal activity was planned.

During the proceedings, Jamie Adams, representing Armstrong, stated that the conviction had resulted in the loss of his job as a cleaner.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and organizations like Dark Justice to combat online grooming and protect minors from exploitation, especially in the digital age where such dangers are increasingly prevalent.
