Neale James, a man aged 51 from Chichester, was convicted of the murder of his mother, Brenda James, who was 78 years old.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years.
The murder appeared to be premeditated, as James planned the act following the accumulation of gambling-related debts.
An autopsy revealed that Brenda James died from a head injury inflicted by a weapon.
Her body was found in Goodwood Park, West Sussex, two days after she was reported missing.
Her daughter, Nicole Moren-James, expressed her grief, stating, "Mum was brutally taken from us, and the loss has created a wound in our hearts and minds that will never fully heal." Detective Chief Inspector Nick May described the case as "callous" and remarked that justice had been served.
He also noted that James had visited the Goodwood Estate shortly before the killing, suggesting premeditation.
