NATHAN WATTERS FROM KIRKCALDY NEAR GLENROTHES ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BOTTLE THROW INCIDENT
In a recent court case held at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Nathan Watters, a man from Kirkcaldy near Glenrothes, narrowly avoided a custodial sentence after an incident involving the throwing of a glass bottle. The incident took place at an address in Lochore on July 29, where Watters was accused of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
According to court proceedings, Watters launched a Buckfast bottle towards a woman who resided close to one of his family members.
The court heard that the altercation stemmed from a dispute between the victim and a member of Watters' family.
The missile, however, missed its intended target, and the woman responded by barricading herself inside her home for safety.
Fiscal depute Jill Currie explained that the incident was part of ongoing tensions, and the bottle-throwing was an aggressive act that could have resulted in serious injury had it made contact.
The court was also informed that Watters’s actions were threatening and abusive, contributing to the seriousness of the case.
During the hearing, Watters’s solicitor, Jamie Moncrieff, acknowledged that his client’s decision to confront the woman was ill-advised, describing it as “not the best decision.” The defense highlighted that the confrontation was rooted in a dispute with a neighbor, but emphasized that Watters’s actions did not cause physical harm.
Sheriff James MacDonald addressed the court, stating that if the bottle had made contact with the woman, he would have seriously considered imposing a prison sentence.
Instead, he chose to impose a community-based penalty, ordering Watters to complete 140 hours of unpaid work as a form of punishment.
Watters, aged 33, admitted to the charges of threatening and abusive behavior, and the court’s decision reflects a balance between accountability and leniency given the circumstances.
The case underscores the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the potential consequences of aggressive actions in community settings.
