MAN JAILED FOR 'TRULY ABHORRENT' RAPE AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
A man from Haverhill has received a sentence of ten years and six months following a conviction for a highly disturbing case involving rape and controlling behavior.
Nathan Staples appeared in court at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday for sentencing.
The 38-year-old, residing in Rowan Close, Haverhill, had previously admitted to charges of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and controlling and coercive conduct.
During their relationship, Staples exerted control over his partner by demanding to know her whereabouts and insisting she use Facetime to show him her company.
He also required her to share live location data, track her movements, and send screenshots and photos of her environment.
Staples incessantly called and messaged the victim while she was out, and he would try to seize her phone if she refused to allow him access.
He was detained in November 2024, then charged and held in custody before being sentenced.
The court handed down a 10-year and six-month prison sentence.
Additionally, Staples will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order as part of his punishment.
