READING MAGISTRATES' COURT: THATCHAM STALKER JAILED FOR ATTACK ON WOMAN
A man known for violent stalking has been sentenced to prison after committing a serious assault on a woman.
Nathan Ochiltree, who has prior convictions related to assault and stalking of women, had previously received community penalties instead of jail time.
Last November, the 23-year-old resident of Urquhart Road, Thatcham, was subject to a restraining order aimed at protecting a recent victim.
Ochiltree denied attacking her, but after a court trial, Reading magistrates dismissed his account and found him guilty of assault by beating.
In 2019, Ochiltree narrowly avoided jail when he was convicted of assault and stalking another former partner.
During that case, magistrates heard he had threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, raped a family member, and set her property on fire after she ignored his messages.
When she attempted to end the abusive relationship, he physically assaulted her pinning her to a sofa, threatening to snap her neck, and striking her in the process.
A campaign of stalking followed.
His solicitor at the time explained that Ochiltree’s previous relationship had issues of trust, which made his behavior difficult for him.
The solicitor stated, “He began to suspect whether his partner had been faithful or not to him.” He received a suspended prison sentence, was ordered to attend a building relationships course, and was subject to a four-year restraining order preventing contact with the victim.
Later, he was convicted of assault and breach of the suspended sentence.
Despite these convictions, the court decided it would be unfair to activate the suspended sentence because Ochiltree was cooperating with probation services, and the sentence was deemed appropriate given his history.
