RETFORD MAN RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER TWO-HOUR LAY-BY ORDEAL
A court heard that Nathan Moar caused a two-hour ordeal for a woman on August 6 last year when he demanded she leave his van on the side of the busy A1 in Nottinghamshire.
Moar, 30, pulled the handbrake, causing the van to skid into a lay-by, and ordered the woman out, shouting "the **** out".
When she refused and called her mother, Moar punched the passenger side of the van and threw her phone under a lorry, smashing it.
The woman feared for her life during this incident, which has left her with post-traumatic stress disorder, nightmares, and flashbacks.
Moar drove off but later returned.
The woman's mother arrived, and the incident ended.
Moar admitted to battery and criminal damage to her phone, but stated in court that he wanted the matter resolved quickly, asserting that everything he said was the truth.
He claimed that her attempt to take her phone was the only contact between them and maintained she tripped and grazed her leg during the incident.
The judge noted Moar accepted some pushing and shoving after he was driving with his then-girlfriend.
The victim was left crying and hysterical, and the judge emphasized Moar punched the van at high speed while vehicles passed nearby, frightening her.
The court sentenced Moar and imposed a ban from contacting her for five years, a community order for two years, a £600 compensation, £250 costs, 250 hours of unpaid work, and attendance at a building better relationships course.
