NATHAN GRAHAM SENTENCED IN GLOUCESTER FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND WEAPONS POSSESSION
A man from Gloucester has been handed a substantial prison sentence of three years and three months after engaging in disturbing online activities involving a minor and possessing weapons in a public space.Nathan Graham, aged 29 and residing on Matson Avenue in Gloucester, appeared before Swindon Crown Court on February 22nd, where he pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges related to child exploitation and weapon possession.
Graham was found guilty of attempting to communicate sexually with a child, attempting to induce a minor to watch sexual acts, and arranging or facilitating the commission of penetrative sexual activity with a child.
Additionally, he was convicted of possessing bladed articles in a public place.
These offences occurred over two days, December 5th and 6th of the previous year, during which Graham engaged with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl through a social media platform.
During these interactions, Graham sent explicit images of himself to the girl, who he falsely believed was of a similar age.
He also lied about his own age, claiming to be 18, and went as far as sending maps indicating bus stops and routes, seemingly to plan a meeting.
His intent was clear: to meet the girl at a bus stop on Gainsborough Way in Swindon for sexual purposes.
The police apprehended Graham on December 7th in Bloomsbury Park, Freshbrook, Swindon, as he was walking towards the bus stop where he intended to meet the girl.
His arrest followed a swift investigation, and he was subsequently charged with the offences.
Graham was remanded into custody and faced the court proceedings today.
In his sentencing, the court imposed a prison term of over three years, and Graham will be registered on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Furthermore, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the next 15 years, reflecting the severity of his actions.
The case was the result of a joint effort between Wiltshire Police and the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).
Detective Constable Sarah Greenman, from the Child Internet Exploitation Team (CIET), emphasized the zero-tolerance stance of authorities: "There can be no place for Graham's abhorrent behaviour in Wiltshire, let alone society." She highlighted that Graham was fully aware he was communicating with a girl he believed to be just 13, yet he continued to send graphic images and videos of himself, even attempting to meet her for sexual purposes.
CIET’s role within Wiltshire Police is dedicated to safeguarding children from online exploitation.
The team works closely with SWROCU to identify and bring to justice individuals like Graham, ensuring public safety.
Detective Inspector David Wells from SWROCU’s Online Investigations Team also commented on the case, describing Graham as a dangerous sexual predator who rightly received a significant custodial sentence.
He reaffirmed the commitment of UK police forces to protect children, reduce risks within communities, and ensure that individuals who pose a threat are held accountable for their actions.
