NATHAN GILES SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR BRUTAL RAPE AND ASSAULTS IN SOMERSET
A man identified as Nathan Giles, aged 34 and residing in Wrington, Somerset, has been handed a life sentence following conviction for a series of severe and horrifying crimes against two women. The incidents, described as 'horrific' by authorities, involved multiple counts of sexual violence, coercive control, and physical assault.
In December of the previous year, Giles was found guilty of a total of nine criminal charges connected to these victims.
His offences included four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and two charges related to controlling or coercive behaviour.
Additionally, Giles was convicted of one count of assault and one count of sexual assault, bringing the total to nine convictions.
The sentencing took place at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, July 14, where the judge delivered a sentence of life imprisonment.
The court stipulated that Giles must serve a minimum term of 17 years and four months before being eligible for parole consideration.
As part of his punishment, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
The impact of Giles's actions has left profound scars on the victims.
One of them issued a heartfelt personal statement, expressing the devastating effect Giles’s crimes have had on her life.
She said, “Nathan Giles has ruined my life… I feel that a part of me has been destroyed and I will never get that back.” She emphasized the injustice of her suffering, stating, “No sentence that Nathan Giles receives will ever justify what he has done to me.
I am doing this for every woman out there, so that no one else has to endure the pain, the sleepless nights, and the constant fear.” She concluded by sharing her sense of moving forward, “I have done this because I feel that this is my ending to my new beginning.” The second victim also spoke about her trauma, revealing how the assault left her feeling ‘terrified, lost, and ashamed.’ She recounted how she would hide in shops to avoid encountering anyone who resembled Giles, indicating the lasting effects of the crimes.
She admitted that these incidents had caused her to steer clear of certain places, especially those that evoke ‘horrible memories,’ underscoring the deep emotional scars left behind.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Darren Weston commented on the case, praising the courage of the victims.
He said, “The bravery of the victims to come forward to the police is a testament to their character and unwavering trust in the criminal justice system.
These two victims were subjected to horrific crimes at the hands of a dangerous man who has not accepted his actions.
What they have done has without a doubt protected others in the community from Giles’s predatory and abhorrent behaviour.
I hope that this gives other victims of these types of crimes the confidence to come forward and report to the police, knowing we will do everything in our power to get justice for victims.”
