NAIEM SULEMAN FROM COVENTRY JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER OFFERING WOMAN A LIFT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Coventry community, Naiem Suleman, a 52-year-old delivery driver, has been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison after being found guilty of raping a 22-year-old woman.The incident occurred in the early hours of January 19, 2019, when Suleman, who was working as an Uber fast food driver at the time, offered to give the young woman a lift after she had become separated from her friends during a night out in Coventry.
Instead of providing her with a safe ride home, Suleman took her to a secluded area where he committed a heinous assault.
The victim was subjected to a brutal rape, during which she sustained bruising around her neck and scrapes and scratches on her knees.
Following the attack, Suleman abandoned her outside her flat, leaving her in a distressed state.
Her housemates found her shortly afterward, wearing Suleman’s work jacket, which bore the logo of the company he was employed with at the time.
Despite Suleman’s denial of the charges, forensic evidence collected from the victim’s clothing linked him directly to the crime scene.
The court heard that the victim’s injuries and the clothing evidence were consistent with her account of the assault.
The trial at Warwick Crown Court concluded with a guilty verdict, and on Monday, Suleman was sentenced to serve nine and a half years behind bars.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his crime.
Prior to his conviction, Suleman had also been involved in another similar incident.
In November 2020, he was convicted of raping a woman after offering her a lift in Coventry.
The court heard that Suleman, who had no fixed address at the time, had again approached a woman after a night out, promising her a ride home.
Instead, he assaulted her, and forensic evidence from her clothing confirmed his involvement.
Suleman was remanded in custody following that conviction and was awaiting sentencing in January, which has now been finalized with his recent sentencing.
