LANARKSHIRE PAEDO JAILED AFTER SENDING 'CHILLING' SEX MESSAGES
A man from Lanarkshire who engaged in inappropriate online communications has been sentenced to one year in prison after he sent disturbing sexual messages to a vigilante posing as a 12-year-old girl.Upon his arrest, Myles Nailen, residing in Coatbridge, attempted to downplay his reprehensible conduct.
He told authorities, "Everyone has sexualised chat." He confessed to sending sexually explicit messages to a girl claiming to be 12 years old, and to attempting to persuade her to send him indecent images of herself.
These conversations took place over October and November 2018, despite the girl warning him of her age.
Throughout their online exchanges, Nailen used graphic sexual language and asked her personal questions.
The girl created a fake Facebook profile, which Nailen contacted.
He expressed that his feelings for her were "out of control" and once joked, "I'll feel better when you are at least a teenager, LOL.
You're turning me into an old perv, lusting after your body." After viewing a photo she sent, he commented, "you're stunning.
They can lock me up if they want.
No man alive could resist you." The girl then provided police with screenshots of their conversation, leading to Nailen’s arrest.
Defence lawyer Vincent McGovern described Nailen's personal circumstances as "bleak," stating, "He has no support from family or friends.
He also no longer uses social media, which was a significant part of his life and contributed to this offence." In sentencing, Sheriff Colin Dunipace remarked, "These messages were disturbing and of serious concern.
The court has a duty to protect young people from individuals like you who seek such engagement.
It is also troubling that you have repeatedly failed to accept responsibility for your actions." Nailen was also ordered to register as a sex offender for an unspecified duration.
He said, "It's only a way of passing the time.
That could have been with anyone." Nailen, from Dunbeth Court, admitted to sending sexual messages to a girl online and attempting to obtain indecent photographs from her.
