EXHALL MAN ORDERED TO BE DETAINED IN HOSPITAL AFTER MANSLAUGHTER
Mustapha Bassou, a resident of Exhall on Armson Road, has been mandated by a court to be held indefinitely in a secure medical environment after his conviction for manslaughter.
The Birmingham Crown Court found him guilty of killing his wife amid a domestic incident.
The case emerged after police and paramedics responded to a call at their quiet residential street on the afternoon of August 30 last year.
They found 42-year-old Fanina Bassou, a mother of three, critically injured with stab wounds.
She was transported by air to University Hospital at Walsgrave, Coventry, where she later died.
Bassou, aged 51 at the time, was arrested at the scene and remained in custody for nearly 10 months before his trial.
While he was initially charged with murder, a mental health assessment led the court to convict him of manslaughter instead.
The judge ordered his detention through a Section 37 Hospital Order along with a Section 41 Restriction Order.
Following the ruling, Warwickshire Police confirmed that these legal measures mean he will be kept in a secure hospital until he is no longer considered a threat to himself or others, with future release subject to approval from the Home Office.
