RAPIST WHO ESCAPED DEPORTATION FOR 14 YEARS COULD RECEIVE COMPENSATION 'AS ELECTRONIC TAG MADE HIM DEPRESSED'

A convicted rapist who has evaded deportation for over ten years might be entitled to compensation, as he claims that wearing an electronic monitoring tag caused him 'depression.' Lawyers are currently debating whether he should receive what is termed 'appropriate relief,' with a High Court judge, Mr Justice Lavender, ruling in his favor shortly before the individual, Mustafa Taskiran, admitted to stalking and threatening a woman with a knife.

The 48-year-old is scheduled for sentencing later this month.

He has stated that the electronic tag gave him severe physical and mental distress because of its weight and discomfort.

This situation follows a lengthy criminal history, starting four years after he was granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK in 1994.

Over a decade, he accumulated 54 criminal offences but was not deported, with efforts failing in 2009.

In 2014, he was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison.

After his release in 2018, Turkish authorities revoked his nationality and refused to issue travel documents, preventing his deportation again.

He was subsequently ordered to wear a 24-hour electronic tag while on immigration bail, according to The Sun.

Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick commented to the newspaper that neither he nor the general public are concerned about the migrant’s alleged depression.

A spokesperson for the Home Office confirmed that the government prioritizes deporting foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
